Montague Bridge

situated in the Panmure Estate, (partly in the former parish) Monikie, Scotland

You can read much more about the Panmure Estate and its history - see the links below,
or look for "panmure" in Google.

Montague Bridge allow the estate roadway to span a deep gully on the Panmure Estate.  The estate is partly situated in the former Monikie Parish.  The bridge is a very stylish, high-arched construction which is in a similar style as the Balmossie (former railway) Viaduct, north of Monifieth - referred to locally as 'the high arches'.

As can be seen, the bridge is quite spectacular in appearance.  The sidewalls of the carriageway have a 'fortified' look, resembling castle ramparts.  The structure is located among the trees, and spans a very deep gully across the Monikie Burn.  The name, Montague, is apparently a family one which relates to past owners of the estate in Angus.
