Craigton of Monikie, Scotland

The village and area of Craigton of Monikie in a lovely rural setting about 11 miles north-east of Dundee, Scotland. It appears here in an aerial photograph believed to have been taken in 1953 and viewed from above the Panmure Testimonial looking north. In the centre of the photograph is Monikie Primary School and to the bottom left is the building which was the manse of the former free church. The large semi-circular shape protruding into the left of the picture is the eastern side of the North Pond of what was then Monikie Public Reservoir, originally constructed for the Corporation of Dundee, but now is popular with fishermen and water-sports enthusiasts as part of Monikie Country Park.  Just off-centre, the area at the angled crossroads is known as "The Point" and to its right, Point Cottage.  The large, irregularly shaped, fielded area towards the bottom left has seen considerable change since this photograph was taken - a few houses have now been built there and an egg production unit took up a considerable part of this plot.  However, in June 1999 that plant was completely removed and a small development of new houses was built.
