# These are NOT COUNTY NAMES. Counties were abolished in 1975.

In the course of his duties before retirement, the Webmaster was closely involved in consultations regarding the delineation of the new Dundee boundary as established by this act and is proud to be the author of the text highlighted above. A strong political bias was being exerted by politicians against the Scottish Office plans at the time. The Webmaster (as a Dundonian) could see this would have severe effects on the reasonable future development of Dundee by effectively changing constituency and ward boundaries purely to "alter" voting results. If the original proposals had been enacted, Dundee would have been much reduced in size - less than it had been for many years - and, thereby, reducing development potential.

Part of the original proposal was that the north-eastern boundary would have been a line southwards on Baldovie Road from Baldovie Toll past Sainsbury's Supermarket to Arbroath Road, then eastwards along that road until it crossed the (now covered over) railway cutting near Grange Road, Monifieth. Many readers will likely be aware that quite a large number of houses have been, and still are being, developed in that area. On the east side of Baldovie Road there are many commercial businesses which would have all fallen outside the City of Dundee rating area. Recently (Spring 2012), work on the creation of a new cemetery for City of Dundee Council has commenced to the south side of Drumsturdy Road. (It should be noted that the North Gate cottages at Lintrathen - beside the cemetery and dwellings near Hillock, all to the south of Drumsturdy Road) -  are deliberately retained in the Angus Council area for historical reasons.

@ Using the data in the table above for the new local authorities of City of Aberdeen and City of Dundee (and the description immediately above) shows how Dundee lost its title of Scotland's THIRD CITY to Aberdeen on 1st April 1996. Look at the description of CITY OF ABERDEEN - the WHOLE of the area of the former local government area of the City of Aberdeen District. Now look at Dundee - it is far from the WHOLE of the former local government area of the City of Dundee District (which included Invergowrie, Longforgan, Monifieth and the rural area around the northwest, north, and east around Dundee from river bank to river bank, between Longforgan and Monifieth. In football terminology "We wiz robbed!"
